Image compression is underestimated but can have many important uses.
Can be useful to webmasters who have many images on their website and want to reduce the loading time. Is also important for people who attach photos to emails and want to send it quickly. And what about Social Networks? People upload a lot of pictures on Facebook, MySpace etc and with Caesium you can drastically reduce the upload time. And if you just want to store your images on your Hard Drive think how many space are you wasting without compressing them!

Caesium features:

* Resize your pictures up to 90% preserving the file format. The software use an intelligent file compressing method.
* Batch processing. Compress in a few second as pictures as you like.
* Most common file format are supported. (JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF, WMF)
* Easy preview, with a twin picture box that display the final result with a button.
* Picture-by-picture compression level. You can set every single compression level at every picture.
* Compression level an be set with an easy slider.
* Drag&Drop. Drop your pictures directly into the list.
* Rename all files with a custom suffix.

Caesium versucht durch verschiedene Algorithmen, Bilder ohne Qualitätsverlust zu komprimieren, was ja zumindest beim Webseitenaufbau trotz schneller Leitungen immer noch ins Gewicht fällt. Vollständiger Beibehalt der Qualität ist natürlich nicht möglich, aber die Testergebnisse waren recht gut. Ähnliches leistet auch Riot (EFB-Suche)! Vielleicht schafft es ja in Zukunft mal Google mit WebP das jpg-Format zu verdrängen, allein mir fehlt der Glaube. Daher haben Tools wie Caesium oder Riot auf jeden Fall noch für eine längere Zeit ihre Berechtigung.

Habe sowohl Caesium wie auch Riot mal im Vergleich kurz angetestet: Gravierende Unterschiede gibt's eigentlich nicht. Allerdings komprimiert Caesium so rein von der Optik her bei gleicher Einstellung merklich stärker als Riot. D. h. eine 80%-Einstellung bei Caesium entspricht wohl ungefähr der 60%-Einstellung bei Riot. Da gefällt mir in dem Moment Riot aber deutlich besser, weil sich's feiner justieren lässt.

Vollständiger Beibehalt der Qualität ist natürlich nicht möglich, aber die Testergebnisse waren recht gut.

Der Threadtitel ist aber etwas missverständlich, denn entweder komprimiert Caesium die Bilder ohne Qualitätsverlust oder nicht. Ein bißchen Qualitätsverlust ist so etwas wie ein bißchen Schwanger.

- natürlich gibt es eine Komprimierung ohne Qualitätsverlust ... vielleicht nicht mit jpg, aber ...
- mensch kann 100 als Qualitätsstufe wählen, dann tut sich vermutlich nicht viel, aber ...

Aber sonst hast du recht. Gordon ist in solchen Sachen immer etwas leichtgläubig.
