LibreWolf - Firefox Fork mit Fokus auf Privatsphäre, Sicherheit und Freiheit

LibreWolf (Nachfolger von Librefox) ist ein aktueller Firefox Fork. Er wird von der LibreWolf Community gepflegt mit Fokus auf Privatsphäre, Sicherheit und Freiheit. So wird z.B. das Plugin uBlock Origin direkt mitgeliefert. Im Kuketz Blog wird seine Datensparsamkeit gelobt. Kritisiert wird das Fehlen einer Auto-Update Funktion für Browser und Plugins. LibreWolf gibt es für Windows, Linux, MacOS.

Beim den automatischen Updates wurde nachgebessert:
Add-ons werden automatisiert aktualisiert. Über Einstellungen -> LibreWolf lässt sich das Verhalten nun anpassen.
Für LibreWolf gibt es die inoffiziellen Erweiterungen LibreWolf Updater extension zur Benachrichtigungen bei neuen Updates oder LibreWolf-WinUpdater für das automatische Updates.

Ohne, das Programm jetzt geladen und selber untersucht und komplett bewertet zu haben:

entweder, ich möchte nicht, daß das Ding andauernd nach Hause und zu Addonherstellern telefoniert und ich schaue daher regelmäßig mit Wecker selber nach, ob es updates ["Firefox", Addons selber, oder neue Regellisten[Ports, Tracker-Adressen, etc.] für o.g. Addons ] gibt,

oder ich nutz gleich das Original, das alles für mich macht - incl. betreutem Surfen, Vorlesen nebst Surfinteressenvorschlägen (falls Langeweile auftritt)

→ Es gibt nur die Rote oder die Blaue Pille.

Viel wichtiger sind/wären eigentlich offensichtliche Dokumentation der vorgenommenen "(Ab)änderungen" - im Vergleich zum Original. Incl. Erklärungen.

Ja Komfort geht häufig zu Lasten der Datensparsamkeit. Aber es gibt nicht nur Schwarz und Weiss, sondern auch viele Schattierungen dazwischen. Eine Opt-In Funktion für Updates anzubieten wäre sicher hilfreich, wenn man schon den Entwicklern des Browsers und der genutzten Plugins sein Vertrauen ausspricht.

Eine Möglichkeit für Updates ist ja die Nutzung des Chocolatey Packets.

Die Entwicklung von LibreWolf folgt entlang der Entwicklung von Firefox, d. h. die aktuelle Firefox Version ist Basis für die aktuelle LibreWolf Version. Interessant in diesem Zusammenhang sind noch die Add-Ons und Filterlisten interessant, mit denen sich der Browser noch mehr absichern lässt:

Normalerweise benutze ich Vivaldi oder Firefox,
zu Testzwecken habe ich eben die portable Version von LibreFox runter geladen...

Die Probleme, die ich am 26.12.21 hatte, bestanden 2 Tage, seitdem gar nicht mehr (Läuft einwandfrei):

If LibreWolf is running, the updater will notify you of the new version, and update as soon as you close the browser. The last result can be found in LibreWolf-WinUpdater.ini.
Or, if you use the portable release of LibreWolf, place LibreWolf-WinUpdater.exe in the same folder as LibreWolf-Portable.exe. It will then automatically update LibreWolf whenever you run LibreWolf-Portable.exe (checking for a new version max. once a day).
The updater depends on PowerShell to extract the contents of the portable version's zip-file.
Remarks
The updater needs to be able to write to LibreWolf-WinUpdater.ini in its own folder, so make sure it's got permission to do so.
The ini-file contains the last result of checking for updates and the last update action.
