Beschreibung:

NDFF is command-line utility that performs extra fast file searching on local NTFS partition. The main advantage over any other file searching tool currently available (including the one found in Windows Explorer) that it looks for file directly in MFT, which is system data table of NTFS. This approach lets avoid reading all the directories contained on the volume, thus speeding up the operation by many times. For example, my 30 GB large partition full of files and directories is scanned in less than 10 seconds, while it takes several minutes to scan it in traditional way.

Für unsere nicht des Englischen mächtigen Teilnehmer ... <seufz> ... Dieses Programm greift direkt auf den MFT von NTFS-Partitionen zu, um dort nach Zeichenketten zu suchen. Dadurch entfallen verschiedene Abstraktionsschichten und API-Layer, was das Programm sehr schnell macht. Weiterer Vorteil: Es braucht im Gegensatz zu Locate (EFB-Suche) keine Datenbank, die ständig aktualisiert werden muss. Nachteile: Es funktioniert eben nur mit NTFS und die Suche kann nicht auf Unterverzeichnisse eingeschränkt werden (-> grep auf die Ausgabe).

Please, please add GUI for ease of use!

This is rather a delicate topic. In short, I did not want to produce an utility at all. My goal is to provide the community of Windows users (myself included) with a feature that Microsoft had not implemented and that is very useful at least for me. Being a software developer, I do not appreciate this feature to be implemented as one of thousands and thousands of other more or less useful utilities with their own GUIs, buttons, etc., buried somewhere deep in the 'Start menu'. I would rather see it integrated into my favourite file managers I usually use to search files on my harddrive.

Therefore, in final release, this utility would look like a .dll or COM/.NET object or C++ static library or all of them together — in other words, a reusable binary that anyone can use to create the software that he or she needs. The form of command line utility is just the simplest user interface to the functions being currently beta tested. But there is only a little chance that GUI would be created before the release of 1.0 — there is too much work to be done besides the interface issues.

NDFF würde mich interessieren, leider findet man das wohl nicht mehr so leicht im Netz. Könnte das evtl mal jemand wo uppen?

Das ist kein GUI, sondern einfach ein wrapper für AutoHotkey. Tut nix weiter als den output in eine datei, dessen name in der variable workf zu finden ist, umleitet.

Danke. Ist ja nicht schlecht - Das Suchen nach einem Dateiname der auf einer 65GB-Platte 2x vorkommt dauerte mit NDFF rund 18 Sekunden, mit dir /s über 2 Minuten. Kann man durchaus benutzen.
